About Our School
John Rogers Elementary is located in the Meadowbrook neighborhood of Northeast Seattle and has been serving Seattle's children since 1956. Current enrollment is approximately 300 students representing our broadly diverse community. The staff is dedicated to ensuring that all students meet or exceed the district and state academic standards.
At John Rogers Elementary we challenge our students to reach their academic potential and we teach them the joy of learning. Our vision, based on the Seven Attributes of Quality High Achievement Schools, values a common focus, a small and personalized learning community, a healthy and supportive school culture and high expectations of all students.
John Rogers is dedicated to helping all students succeed. Our devoted staff works diligently to differentiate instruction and curriculum to meet the needs of all students. John Rogers provides rigorous academic programs. Our students are challenged by our use of inquiry-based science, Accelerated Reader, Investigations Math, Storypath Social Studies and Accelerated Math to match the state grade level expectations.
Our Accelerated Academic Achievement Plan focuses on frequent student monitoring, professional development in literacy and differentiated learning, and making a concerted effort to reduce class sizes. We value the contributions of everyone and work to ensure that all cultures are represented in our classroom materials and library.
Technology and the arts are integrated into curriculum to enrich student learning. Computers are used throughout the school. Each classroom includes four to five student workstations and there are 15 in the library. All have internet connections. The library includes more than 11,000 books and our average monthly checkout is approximately 3,000 books.
In addition, we provide a warm and caring environment where all families and cultures are respected. The sense of community is evident throughout the building by the interactions among students, staff and families. Additional John Rogers highlights:

Parents also organize and host school wide functions including the Harvest Festival, Auction, Field Day and more. Volunteers devote countless hours to the school. They help staff with science extension and environmental education through the 4th grade equestrian camp and 5th grade outdoor school, the salt water fish tank, the Audubon Finding Urban Nature (FUN) Program, National Science Foundation classroom kits, and beach trips in the spring. A partnership with Meadowbrook Community Center enables the school to offer swimming lessons for all students at Meadowbrook Pool.
